Trigg County pitcher Jake Terrell signed Tuesday to continue his athletic and academic career at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, TN.
Terrell added a slider to his repertoire and emerged as the Wildcats’ top pitcher in 2017, posting a 2-0 record with one save and a 1.50 ERA. The right-hander struck out 61 in 37 innings and walked just nine batters. Terrell is expected to anchor a Trigg County pitching staff in 2018 that returns seven wins and 157 of the 208 strikeouts posted in 2017.
He played on the Middle Tennessee Outlaws travel team that was coached by a Vol State assistant coach, and that’s where Terrell became familiar with the college and the campus.
Vol State went 29-20 last year and win two games in the National Junior College Association Region VII Tournament. The Pioneers had no players from Kentucky on their roster last year.
Terrell is the first member of the 2018 Trigg County baseball team to sign to play in college with three more scheduled to sign in the next two weeks.
