Free Throw Woes Cost Lady Lyons in Loss at Hopkins Central

2-16-collins

If Lyon County had mastered one statistical category Thursday, they would have beaten Hopkins County Central in Morton’s Gap. The Lady Lyons hit just 8-of-24 free throws in a 50-46 overtime loss to the Lady Storm.

Lyon held the lead at the end of the first three quarters, up 11-8 after one and 20-17 at halftime. Lyon took a 35-30 lead into the fourth quarter but was outscored 13-8 to send the game to the extra period.

Allison Murphy had a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead Lyon. Hannah Holloman added 11 points and eight boards, and Calista Collins pulled down 13 rebounds.

Hopkins County Central (14-15) got 20 points and 10 rebounds from Keke Ikeard and 14 points from Gabby Baxter. It’s only the fourth time this season that Lyon has allowed 50 points in a game.

Lyon County (18-9) will play Crittenden County Tuesday in the Fifth District Tournament in Marion.
