The team that has looked all season long like the darkhorse candidate to win the Boys 2nd Region tournament is the favorite to cut the nets down Friday night at the Boys 7th District tournament. The Madisonville Maroons completed an undefeated run through the district during the regular season and have to be considered the team to beat this week.
The tourney gets underway Tuesday night at 6:00pm in Princeton , as top seeded Madisonville takes on the #4 seeded Dawson Springs Panthers. The Maroons were never really tested late into a game during district play. Their two closest games were a 10 point win on the road at Hopkins Central and a 12 point win at home over Caldwell County. Meanwhile, the Panthers did not win a game against a district opponent all season, even losing a third time to Hopkins Central in a tournament at Union County.
The second game Tuesday night could be a very interesting matchup. The Caldwell County Tigers and the Hopkins Central Storm split their regular season meetings, which each team winning on the other team’s home court. The Storm won by 17 in Princeton, while Caldwell County won by 3 in overtime at Mortons Gap. The Tigers appear to be the hotter team coming in, having won 5 of their last six games.
The 7th District Boys championship game is set for Friday night at 7:00pm.
