Lady Cougars and Wildcats Advance in 13th District (w/PHOTOS)

The Logan County Lady Cougars will advance on to play for a district title, while the Logan County Cougars saw their season come to an end Monday night in 13th District tournament play on their home floor.

In the girls contest, Logan County moved on by knocking off Franklin-Simpson 42-29. Logan County got out to a 9-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Cougars outscored the Lady Wildcats 11-6 in the second quarter to extend the lead to 20-10 at the half.

Franklin-Simpson pushed to get back into the game during the 3rd quarter, outscoring Logan County 13-7 to trim the lead to 27-23 heading into the 4th quarter. Behind Peyton Vanzant, the Lady Cougars were able to pull away down the stretch to secure the win. Vanzant led Logan County with 21 points in the contest.

Franklin-Simpson was led by Kate Norwood with 12.

In the boys contest, Franklin-Simpson got to the lead during the 2nd quarter and held on for a 65-61 win over Logan County. The Cougars held a 16-15 lead after the first quarter. However, the Wildcats limited Logan County to only ten points in the second quarter and took a 32-26 lead at the half.

Franklin-Simpson outscored the Cougars 12-11 in the 3rd quarter to extend the lead to 44-37 headed into the final quarter. The Wildcats then were able to do just enough down the stretch to hold on for the four point win on the Cougars home floor.

Franklin-Simpson was led by Sam Blackwell with 17 points. Logan County’s leading scorer was Kelby Epley with 18.
