The Murray State women’s track and field team gears up for the Ohio Valley Indoor Championship in Charleston, Ill., hosted by Eastern Illinois. For most of the indoor season, Murray State has posted in the top-five, with a pair of second-place finishes at the Gene Edmonds Invite at Purdue and the Don DeNoon Invite at Southern Illinois. Although not scored, Murray State posted solid results in the Music City Classic and Gorilla Classic hosted by Vanderbilt and Pittsburg State respectively.
Although not his first year with the Racers, first-year head coach Adam Kiesler and his staff have kept the intensity for the duration of the season.
“Coming into the indoor season, we wanted to teach them how to compete and give their all at every event. I think that they’ve done that this season, but the pressure for the OVC meet is different,” said Kiesler
The Racers have sure shown that intensity, with school records broken and numerous Racers posting top-10 times among the OVC.
Tamdra Lawrence tied the school record in the 60-meter dash of 7.42 at the Gorilla Classic and currently holds the best time among the OVC. She also holds the second-fastest time in the 200-meter race among OVC runners. Jaubrena Brimlett and Antoinetta Avant have also posted top-10 times in the OVC with times of 7.72 and 7.73 respectively.
Brimlett has not set the school record for the 60-meter hurdles once, but twice this season. Her first time setting the record came at Vanderbilt with a time of 8.41. She most recently broke that time at the Gorilla Classic with a time of 8.36
Hilary McAdam established the record for the 600-yard race with a time of 1:23.46. McAdam also has top-10 times in the 400 and 800-meter race.
Aubrey Main has put impressive results in the high jump and pentathlon, as she’s currently in the top-five for both high jump and pentathlon.
For the shot put, Destiny Carey sits in the top-five with her throw of 13.20m.
Emily Heil recorded an OVC top-10 result at Pittsburg State with a jump of 3.28m in the pole vault.
The 2018 OVC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship will be held February 23-24 at Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse on the campus of Eastern Illinois University.
