Christian County High School senior Detorrion Ware has moved on to the second round of the American Family Insurance High School/Dream Fearlessly Slam Dunk Championship fan vote.
Through an online vote, Ware beat Nigel Hawkins of Cypress Falls (Houston, TX) High School in the first round with 57.3-percent of the vote. In the second round, Ware is paired against Cade Byers of Pikeville (KY) High School.
People can vote at www.highschoolslam.com. The player with the most votes then advances to the next round. The winner will be invited to participate in the national slam dunk championships during the NCAA Final Four weekend on Sunday, April 1.
People will get one chance to vote per day per device. Voting will continue through next Wednesday.
Ware’s dunk in the Jan. 27 game against Hopkinsville was used to nominate him to become part of the contest.
Last year, Christian County’s Jaylen Sebree advanced to the finals of the national contest.
