A former member of the Caldwell County Tiger basketball team played a big role in a Nashville area school making its first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament. When Lipscomb University, a private church-affiliated school in Nashville, finally sealed their 108-96 win over Florida Gulf Coast Sunday afternoon in the final, it gave the Bisons their first trip to the Big Dance in program history.

Former Caldwell County Tiger Eli Pepper was among those who played a key role in the historic achievement for Lipscomb. Pepper, a 6-9 junior, came up with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and one blocked shot in the contest.

During his senior season at Caldwell County, Pepper averaged a double-double, with 17.6 points and 14.3 rebounds per game. Pepper also played wide receiver for the Tiger football team, where he was named All-State.
