After three-straight, three-win seasons, the Todd County Central baseball team enters 2018 with a new coach and a positive mentality. Coach Josh Popplewell takes over a Rebel program coming off a 3-23 season that ended with a 13-0 loss to Logan County in the first round of the 13th District tournament.
The Rebels graduated four seniors off the 2017 team, and welcome back four starters. Returning at 3rd base is senior Nick Tutor, joined by senior outfielders McKinley Griggs and Trevor Henderson, along with sophomore IF/P Dylan Hurt. Coach Popplewell identifies a number of players that will be counted on to step into the lineup, including sophomore IF Bryce Nolan, junior 1B/C Pedro Gonzalez, senior C Logan Smith, junior Juvy Peterson, freshman C Ethan Bicksler, and Jameson Hunt.
Todd County opens the season at home on Monday when Hopkins County Central makes the trip to Elkton. The Rebels first 13th District game will be a road match-up at Franklin-Simpson on March 27, after being shutout in both meetings with the Wildcats last season.
