A walk with the bases loaded in extra innings ended a tough loss for the Lyon County Lady Lyons Thursday evening, as they dropped a 4-3 decision to Union County on the road. The game winning walk came just an inning after the Bravettes rallied to score the game tying run in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Lyon County got on the boards first in the contest when Sydney Melton doubled with two outs in the top of the 2nd inning to drive in Rachel Coursey to give the Lady Lyons a 1-0 lead. Union County came back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, taking advantage of a lead off triple.
Union County appeared to take control of the game in the bottom of the 6th inning, as the Bravettes opened the inning with three consecutive hits to take a 2-1 lead. Lyon County pitcher Sophie Bingham then buckled down and got the next three batters in order to keep the margin at one run.
In the top of the 7th, following a single by Bingham, Calista Collins slammed a two run homer to put the Lady Lyons back on top 3-2. However, in the bottom of the inning, Union County tied the game on an error, a walk and a single. Following an intentional walk, Union County had the bases loaded with no outs. Again, Bingham bore down and set down the next three Union County batters in order to send the game to extra innings.
After Lyon County went down in order in the top of the 8th inning, Union County started the bottom of the 8th inning to load the bases with no outs. Bingham was able to strike out the next two batters, but this time she could not get the 3rd out as the bases loaded walk ended the game.
Union County had four runs on eleven hits and committed two errors, while Lyon County scored three runs on eleven hits and committed one error.
Calista Collins was 2-4 for the Lady Lyons with the two run home run. Kirstin Kraft was 3-3 on the afternoon, while Sophie Bingham was 4-4 with a double.
Bingham went the distance for Lyon County in the circle, giving up 4 runs, on eleven hits, striking out 13, and walking 5.
