Emma Talley shot an even-par 72 in the first round of the Kia Classic in Carlsbad, CA Thursday and finds herself close to the cut line.
Talley had a double-bogey on hole No. 1 but bounced back to birdie four of the next 16 holes to finish with a 72. The Princeton golfer was accurate off the tee with 13-of-14 fairways hit, but only hit 11 of 18 greens in regulation (two shots below par for the hole) and had 30 putts.
Talley, who entered the week ranked 53rd in the Race to the CME Globe which is based on earnings, is trying to avoid missing the cut for the second straight week. After finishing tied for seventh place at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open last month, Talley shot +8 last week at the Bank of Hope Founders Cup in Arizona and failed to reach the third round.
She is scheduled to tee off at 9:11 local time Friday morning.
