Darell Keith has served as Christian County Middle School Coach and high school assistant coach prior to being named Todd County Central football coach this week.
Todd County Central is hoping to emulate the success path of their eastern neighbor in naming Darell Keith as their new head football coach. TCHS Athletic Director Marnie Broady confirmed the hire after his approval by the Todd County Site Based Decision Making Council on Tuesday.
Keith served as offensive line coach at Christian County last year, and was part of a coaching staff that led the Colonels to their first unbeaten regular season in program history.
He also had a successful run as the head coach of the Christian County Middle School program and was a coach in the Middle School All-Star football game.
Keith has coach at the semi-pro level and was head coach of the Joint Task Force Wolfpack, a team of service members in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines that played in the Japan-American Football League in 2010, winning the championship.
He takes over for Les Broady, who announced his retirement after two seasons. After an 0-10 season in 2016, the Rebels began 2017 with four straight wins for the first time since the 1970s and beat Butler County to assure them a trip to the postseason.
Todd County Central finished with a 6-5 record, which was their first winning season since 1995.
Keith inherits a program that graduates five seniors and will have a large freshman and sophomore class.
Todd County is hoping for the same middle school-to-high school success enjoyed by Todd Adler, who guided Logan County to one of their best seasons in school history and was named Associated Press Kentucky Coach of the Year just four years after coach Logan County’s middle school program.
Broady said there were six applicants for the head coaching job with Keith one of two interviewed for the job.
