Trigg County junior Hannah Colbert earned two complete-game wins and also went deep twice to lead the Lady Wildcats to two victories on Friday afternoon, beating Calloway 4-1 and Stewart County, TN 5-1. With the wins, Trigg county improves to 4-2, while the Lady Lakers slip to 3-2 and Stewart County falls to 2-3.
Calloway County scored on a passed ball to take an early 1-0 lead, but that would be all Colbert allowed the rest of the way. In the bottom of the first, the Lady Wildcats pushed ahead on a single by junior Madison Simpson that brought home junior Logan Darnall, with freshman Kara Southwood scoring on the throw.
The 2-1 score would hold until the bottom of the fifth when junior Autumn Durham singled to center to score Darnall. Colbert then capped things off in the bottom of the sixth with a solo blast to left center for the final 4-1 score.
Colbert finished 3-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored, and got the complete-game win while only allowing three hits and 1 run, striking out twelve. Simpson and Durham both had a hit, knocking in 2 and 1, respectively. Darnall, Southwood, and sophomore Abby Terrell each had a hit, with Darnall scoring twice and Southwood once.
Trigg County would find itself behind early once again in the second game, giving up another run on a passed ball. However, the Lady Wildcats again answered in their half of the first, tying the game on a Colbert homer over the left-field fence.
The Lady Wildcats took the lead for good in the bottom of the third on a Southwood single to center, allowing freshman Phelan Dossett to score on the throw. Southwood was instrumental in Trigg’s 3rd run as well, hitting a sacrifice fly to score Darnall for a 2-run lead in the bottom of the fifth. They would tack on two more in their final at-bat, with Simpson and Colbert crossing the plate on a single by freshman Adri Phillips.
Southwood and Phillips both had a hit and 2 RBI, followed by Colbert with a hit, RBI, and a run scored. Darnall was the only Lady Wildcat with two hits, crossing the plate once. Durham, Simpson, Dossett and junior Julia Rhone each had a hit, with Durham and Simpson each scoring once.
Colbert picked up her second win of the day, going the distance while only allowing three hits and a run, striking out thirteen and walking one.
Trigg returns to action on Monday, traveling to Dixon to face the 3-2 Webster County Lady Trojans.
