
The UHA Lady Blazers’ hopes to advance to the semifinals of the 2nd Region All A softball tournament were cut short Monday evening. The Lady Blazers were upended by the Dawson Springs Lady Panthers 18-8 in a slugfest in a high scoring affair in Dawson Springs.
The Lady Panthers got on top early, plating five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Dawson Springs took advantage of four walks, three hit batters, and one UHA error to take the 5-0 lead.
UHA came right back in the top of the 2nd inning, scoring seven runs to go in front 7-5. The Lady Blazers had a double and a single in the inning, and took advantage of Dawson’s pitching struggles. Dawson Springs gave up four walks and two hit batters during the UHA rally.
The lead was shortlived for UHA, as the Lady Panthers came right back with six runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning to grab the lead back at 11-7. Kianna Hooper had one of the big hits in the inning with an RBI double. UHA continued to be plagued with pitching troubles as the Lady Blazers gave up four walks and three hit batters in the inning.
Dawson Springs added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning thanks to another walk and two UHA errors.
The Lady Blazers got a run in the top of the 5th inning on an RBI single from Rayleigh Fitzpatrick to trim the lead to 13-8.
Dawson closed out the game on the 10-run rule by scoring five runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Again, pitching struggles were key in the inning, as UHA gave up four more walks and three hit batters.
Dawson Springs scored their 18 runs in the game on only two hits, while UHA scored their 8 runs on four hits.
Breanna Daniel was 2-2 for UHA with one RBI. Lydia Humphries was 1-3, while Rayleigh Fitzpatrick was 1-1 with 2 RBIs.
Dawson Springs improves to 1-0 on the season, while UHA falls to 0-2. Dawson Springs advances to take on Fort Campbell in the 2nd Region All A semifinals
