For the second day in a row this week, Big Blue Nation has received good news to start the day. Tuesday morning, five-star recruit Ashton Hagans announced that he was committing to Kentucky for the 2018-2019 basketball season. His announcement comes the morning after UK freshman Shai Gilgeous-Alexander declared he was leaving for the NBA, joining Kevin Knox as the second player to head for the NBA, and the 4th Wildcat overall to leave the program.
Hagans, who is from Covington, Georgia is ranked as the #1 point guard in the Class of 2019, but is expected to reclassify for the Class of 2018 and be read to play next season. Should that take place, he joins a recruiting class that includes McDonald’s All-Americans Keldon Johnson, EJ Montgomery and Immanuel Quickley, along with shooting guard Tyler Herro.
Hagans averaged 20.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game this past season.
