Lady Colonels Make Statement in 9-0 Win at McCracken County

4-12-blane

Christian County’s Lady Colonels felt a little disrespected when they returned home from Alabama last week and dropped a spot in the Kentucky High School Softball Coaches’ Poll. After all, the Lady Colonels won two games and lost on a walk-off homerun to the defending Class 2A state champs and dropped a game to the No. 1 team in Alabama’s largest class.

They are working fast to gain back that respect.

Two days after they mercy-ruled No. 12 South Warren, the eighth-ranked Lady Colonels traveled to Paducah and hammered No. 4 McCracken County 9-0.

Lexie O’Daniel was dominant in the circle for the Lady Colonels, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out 11 in picking up the shutout win.

Christian County took control of the game early with a five-run second inning and three more in the third inning.

Taylor Shemwell cranked a two-run homer over the centerfield fence to get the scoring underway for the Lady Colonels in the second frame. Two more runs scored on a Lady Mustang error, and Tyler Shemwell followed with a RBI single.

In the third inning, Halle Hendricks doubled home a run and later scored on a two-run double by Emmy Blane.
Christian County rounded out the scoring in the sixth inning when Tyler Shemwell homered to center. She finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Blane drove in four runs.

O’Daniel got plenty of support from the Colonel defense who played an errorless game.

Christian County (10-2) will look to knock off their third ranked team this week when they host No. 10 Apollo Friday at Lady Colonel Field.
