Hopkinsville Track and Field Coach Fred Sowerby has been impressed with Jakayla McSwain’s leadership skills on and off the track and feels like she will continue to be a leader at Murray State University.
Sowerby made the comments after McSwain signed her letter to run track and field Wednesday for the Racers.
McSwain set Hopkinsville’s school record in the 400 meters as a freshman and won the event at the Class 3A State Meet last year as a junior.
She also won the 200-meter dash and anchored the 800-meter relay team to a region title last year.
McSwain has competed at the state meet for Hopkinsville since the seventh grade and looks to break her own school record in the 400 meters this year.
