Trigg County survived a late Lyon County rally to knock off the Lyons 9-7 Tuesday and remain unbeaten atop the Fifth District standings.

The Lyons saw Trigg County build a 7-1 lead after two innings before a 3-run homer by Travis Yancy followed by a solo shot from Jake Kleuppel in the sixth drew them to within a run.

Jake Terrell slammed the door shut on the Lyons over the final two innings to pick up the save for the Wildcats.

Two walks and a hit batter preceded an Andrew Williamson double for Trigg in the first inning that got them out to a 2-0 lead.

Trigg added five runs in the second inning on a double by Tyler Ladd, bunt singles by Ashton Plymale and Trevor Cortner, a Lyon error, two walks and a sacrifice fly.

Lyon got on the board in the second when Yancy doubled and scored on a bloop single to left by Kleuppel. They added two more runs in the third on a Trigg error and RBI single by Brody Bridges.

Trigg got one of the runs back on a double by Micah Brown, a ground out, and a sacrifice fly by Riley Stallons.

Ladd was cruising on the mound for the Wildcats until the bottom of the fifth when Gunnar Bingham and Jack Walker singled. Yancy took a 3-2 pitch high over the right field fence to cut the Trigg lead to 8-6. Kleuppel then followed with a solo shot to make it a one-run game and chase Ladd from the game.

Terrell came on in relief to get out of the jam and preserve the one-run lead.

Trigg added an insurance run in the seventh on a Cortner double and Savion Radford bad hop single.

Lyon mounted a rally in the seventh when Kleuppel was hit by a pitch ahead of a Keaton Bridges single. However, Taylor Carney flew out to left, and the Lyon runner was thrown out at third to end the game after tagging up.

Ladd got the pitching win, allowing nine hits and five earned runs. Terrell pitched two-and-two-thirds innings of one-hit baseball, striking out two.

Cortner, Williamson, and Brown each had two hits for Trigg County, with Williamson, Radford, and Stallons each driving in two runs.

Yancy pitched well in relief for Lyon County, striking out four batters in four innings while allowing just two earned runs. Walker, Yancy, and Kleuppel each had two hits for the Lyons.

Trigg County improved to 7-3 overall, and they move to 3-0 in the district. Livingston beat Crittenden 8-0 Tuesday to move to 2-0 in the district. Trigg will play Muhlenberg County Thursday in the Town and County Classic at Hopkinsville.

Lyon County dropped to 4-0 overall and 0-1 in the district. Their All-A win over Livingston Central does not count toward the district standings. The Lyons travel to Crittenden County Thursday.
