The Murray State women’s golf team won their 11th Ohio Valley Conference Golf Championship Wednesday in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The Racers are back-to-back champs for the fourth time in program history. They successfully defended their 2017 title with a gutsy finish in windy conditions at the Schoolmaster Course in which the Racers posted a final round 303 to edge Jacksonville State (299) by four shots.

The Racers placed three of their starting five in the top-5 and they all earned OVC All-Tournament honors. Moa Folke and Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria shared second place. Folke, who was trying for a third-straight individual title fell four shots short of Jacksonville State’s Valentina Giraldo. The senior Folke, had rounds of 73-69-79=221. Only a sophomore, Puente Rodriguez has a bright future after briefly taking the lead on the back nine and finishing with rounds of 73-76-73=221.

Sophomore Raeshay Surendran made a splash from the fifth spot in the MSU lineup earning All-Tournament honors with a fifth-place finish on scores of 77-72-73=222.

Former UHA standout Anna Moore placed 24th on scores of 88-74-78=240 and Linette Holmsykke was 29th after rounds of 85-73-83=241. They both had a hand in MSU’s team win as Moore’s second round 74 counted as did Holmslykke’s second round 73.

The Racers will learn of their NCAA assignment on Wednesday when the field of 74 teams will be announced on the Golf Channel.

There are four sites that will host NCAA Tournament regionals and the Racers will be sent to one of them. Those sites are: Austin, Texas (University of Texas GC), Madison, Wisconsin (University Ridge Golf Course), Stanford, California (TPC Harding Park) and Tallahassee, Florida (Don Veller Seminole GC).
