Lady Colonels Crush Henderson

The Christian County softball team had no trouble with the Henderson County Lady Colonels on Tuesday night, starting slowly before rolling to a 14-1 victory.  The win is Christian County’s sixth-straight, pushing its record to 20-3-1 overall.  Henderson County drops its fifth in a row to slip to 5-9 on the year.

Christian County led 2-1 heading into the fourth inning, with a solo-blast by junior Tyler Shemwell giving it the edge.  In the top of the fourth, 8th grader Pickle Winkler bunted her way on and scored senior Halle Hendricks, before a 2-run shot by sophomore Lexie O’Daniel stretched the lead to 4 at 5-1.

Christian County added another run in the fifth, before junior Emmy Blane blasted a 2-run homer to center field for an 8-1 score in the sixth.  Blane and O’Daniel homered on consecutive at-bats in the top of the seventh, expanding the lead to the final score of 14-1.

Senior Regan Hancock got the win on the mound, working 3.0 innings while yielding only a single run on three hits with a couple of strikeouts and two walks.  Blane led the way at the plate, going 2-4 with 6 RBI, and launching two home runs.  O’Daniel collected three hits and drove-in 3, matching Blane with two taters.  Tyler Shemwell and Winkler each had a couple of hits and 2 RBI, followed by Taylor Shemwell with a hit and an RBI.  Hancock posted three hits, with sophomore Hope Jones, freshman Serinity Shemwell, and junior Macy Lancaster each hitting their way on once.

Senior Hailee Hope took the loss for Henderson, going 6.1 innings and getting knocked-around for  14 runs on 16 hits with a strikeout and four walks.

Christian County have a big 2nd Region match-up looming on Thursday when it makes the trip to Madisonville to face the 10-2 Lady Maroons.
