Four errors in the top of the 9th inning and eight total in the game were too much for the Hopkinsville Tigers to overcome Tuesday night. The Tigers fell to Hopkins Central 14-10 in a high scoring affair at Hopkinsville High School. It was a game where neither team could put the other away, until the storm scored four runs in the 9th. Both teams had opportunities in regulation, and in extra innings to take the game, but could just not find the way.
Hopkinsville got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Dalton Bearns tripled and then scored on a ground out to make it 1-0. Hopkins Central “stormed” back with two runs in the second and two more in the top of the 3rd to make it 4-1.
Hopkinsville rebounded with a run in the bottom of the 3rd when Bearns doubled and then scored later in the inning on a double steal to cut the lead to 4-2. Central came back with two more runs in the top of the 4th to extend their lead to 6-2. The score would remain that way until the bottom of the 6th inning.
In the 6th, the Tigers scored five times to go in front for the first time at 7-6. The big hit in the inning was a two out single by Caleb Bapp which tied the game at 6-6. Hopkinsville then took the lead on a Storm error that allowed Bapp to score.
Hopkinsville appeared to have the game put away, until back to back errors with two outs allowed the Storm to score two runs and go back in front 8-7. Hopkinsville tied it in the bottom of the inning when Robert Justus came up with a one out single to score John Duvall and send the game to extra innings.
In the top of the 8th, Hopkins Central scored two runs on wild pitches to the same batter with one out to go back in front 10-8. The Tigers again tied the game up in the bottom of the inning when John Duvall came up with a clutch two out, two RBI single to make it 10-10.
In the 9th, Hopkins Central used three hits and four Tiger errors to plate four runs and finally seize the game for the evening. Two of the errors were overruns in the outfield, allowing baserunners to extend base hits.
In the game, John Duvall was 2-3 with two runs and 2 RBIs. Dalton Bearns was 2-3 with three runs scored. Caleb Bapp ended up 1-5 with 2 RBIs for the Hopkinsville Tigers.
