In a duel between two of the premier softball pitchers in the 2nd Region on Thursday night, Trigg County junior Hannah Colbert led the Lady Wildcats to a 1-0 win over visiting Sophie Bingham and the Lyon County Lady Lyons.  The win snaps a three-game losing streak and keeps Trigg County in contention for the 5th District top seed at 3-1, improving its overall record to 15-9.  Lyon County completes its district schedule at 2-4, and stands at 13-10 on the year.

Bingham allowed no hits over the first three frames, with Colbert only yielding two.  Trigg’s first hit was a lead-off triple in the bottom of the fourth by junior Madison Simpson, but Bingham struck-out the next three batters to get out of trouble.

Lyon freshman Kaelyn Conger led-off the top of the seventh with a single, but was erased with a double-play.  In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Wildcats’ Ashlyn Keller reached on an error, before her replacement runner, sophomore Isabella Alexander, was moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Adri Phillips.  Junior Julia Rhone hit a grounder to second, reaching on a throwing error and bringing Alexander around from second for the winning run.

Colbert pitched 7.0 strong innings for the win, scattering four hits while striking-out ten.  Simpson had both of the Lady Wildcats’ hits, with junior Autumn Durham drawing a couple of walks.

Bingham was the hard-luck loser, working 6.1 innings while surrendering a single unearned run on two hits with eleven strikeouts and three walks.  Conger and freshmen Sydney Melton, Calista Collins, and Kerstin Craft each had a hit for the Lady Lyons.

Trigg County is back in action on Friday when the 21-3 Christian County Lady Colonels visit the Recreation Complex.  The Lady Lyons aren’t scheduled to play again until Monday, with Fort Campbell (1-19) visiting Eddyville.
