Hopkinsville continues to show signs they are playing better baseball down the stretch even though they don’t have the wins to show for it.
Logan County scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to hand the Tigers a 5-3 loss Monday at Tiger Stadium.
It was the same formula for a Tiger loss that bit them again Monday – late inning mistakes. A hit batter and error preceded a three-run home run by Kaleb Justice that proved to be the game-winner.
Bradley Taylor got Logan County on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the first inning. Hoptown answered with a run from a double play in their half of the first inning to tie the game.
An error in the third inning allowed Logan County to plate the go-ahead run for a 2-1 advantage.
Hopkinsville took the lead in the fourth inning when Robert Justus, Blake Balthrop, and Aaron Crosby singled. Landon Snyder’s single plated two runs for a 3-2 Tiger lead.
Dylan Penick came on in relief for Logan County (17-7) and allowed just two hits in 3.1 innings and struck out six while allowing no runs.
Crosby was the tough luck loser for Hoptown, allowing three earned runs and striking out four in 6.1 innings of work.
Balthrop had three hits for Hoptown, whole Snyder added two. The Tigers outhit Logan County 8-7.
Hopkinsville (7-15) will try and put together a solid game and pick up a win Tuesday when they visit Trigg County.
