The Christian County Lady Colonels held off a last gasp rally from the Caldwell County Lady Tigers to pick up a regional softball win Tuesday evening in Princeton. After going into the final half inning leading 11-0, the Lady Colonels had to hold off the rally, which saw the Lady Tigers close within 11-6 at the end.
The game was a close battle through the first five innings. Christian County scored one run in the 2nd on an RBI single by Serinity Shemwell. They added another run in the top of the 4th inning on a home run by Tyler Shemwell to take a 2-0 lead.
Christian County took control of the game with a five run 6th inning. The big hit in the inning was a three run home run by Taylor Shemwell. The Lady Colonels then put the hammer down for four more runs in the top of the 7th inning to “comfortably” lead 11-0. Two of the runs scored on a Caldwell County error.
However, the Lady Tigers came fighting back to try and make a game of it in their last at bat. A triple from Mashea Glover followed by a home run from Madi Choate made it 11-2. Three singles in a row, including an RBI single from Peyton Young made it 11-3, with still no outs.
A walk and then a fielder’s choice made it 11-4. Christian County got the first out of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Emma Staples to cut the lead to 11-5. Katie Franklin then hit an RBI single to left field to make it an 11-6 game with still just one out. Regan Hancock then got the Lady Tigers to hit into a ground out, and struck out Madi Choate to end the game.
Tyler Shemwell was big for Christian County, going 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Serinity Shemwell was 3-4 with 3 RBIs. And, Taylor Shemwell went 1-4 with 3 RBIs.
For Caldwell County, Madi Choate led the way, going 1-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs.
Lexie O’Daniel was spectacular for Christian County, going six of the seven innings, allowing no runs, no hits, striking out ten and walking only one. It was a tough nite for Caldwell County’s Katie Franklin, who gave up 11 runs on 9 hits, struck out three and walked four.
