Caldwell County took advantage of a struggling University Heights Academy softball team to grab an 18-0 softball win Thursday in Princeton.
The Lady Tigers scored 13 runs in the first inning as the result of seven hit batters, four walks, and a two-run triple by Allie Felker. J’Aimee Burk doubled in a run, and Peyton Young added an RBI single.
Katie Franklin added an RBI single in the second inning as the Lady Tigers added five more runs. Franklin also pitched the first two innings and struck out five without allowing a hit to get the win. Illysa Stallons pitched a scoreless third inning.
Ann-Marie Fitzpatrick struck out one in 1.2 innings of relief for the Lady Blazers, who were playing without starting pitcher Regan Pollard who is injured.
University Heights Academy (1-8) will host Livingston Central Friday.
Caldwell County (13-8) will play in the Best of the West Tournament in Bowling Green Friday and Saturday. Their Friday opponent is No. 18 South Warren. Saturday, they will play Russellville in an All-A State Tournament rematch and Greenwood.
