Lyon County got strong pitching performances from Christian Whalin and Max Wadlington, but six errors led to 4 unearned runs for hosts Hickman County in a 4-3 nine-inning loss. With the setback, Lyon slips below .500 at 9-10, while the Falcons snap a two-game slide to move to 11-8.
Down 3-1 in the top of the fifth, the Lyons trimmed the lead to 1 on an RBI single from Gunnar Bingham. With one out in their last at bat, the Lyons tied the game when Gabe Board reached on an error to allow Wadlington to come home and send it to extra innings at 3-3.
Wadlington, on in relief of Whalin in the fourth, held down the Falcon offense into the ninth, but Hickman’s Parker Estes did the same to the Lyons after coming on after the seventh. A Hickman single in the bottom of the inning, with an error before and after, would do the damage for the Falcons victory.
Wadlington was the hard-luck loser, working 5.0 innings and yielding a single run on three hits while striking-out five. Whalin started and went 3.1. allowing 3 unearned runs on five hits with two strikeouts. Wadlington, Bingham and Jack Walker each had two hits, with Board and Brody Bridges both driving in a run.
Estes worked the eight and ninth frames for the win, striking-out three and issuing one walk. Sam Gallimore was 3-4 with 3 RBI for the Falcons.
Lyon County makes the trip to Murray on Friday to face the 11-8 Calloway County Lakers.
