Austin Gibson’s 10-year wrestling journey will make a stop in Owensboro after the Christian County senior signed to continue his academic and athletic career at Kentucky Wesleyan Thursday.

Austin’s wrestling career has seen him qualify for the state tournament in both middle school and high school. He won the Region I title as a senior with three consecutive pins in the meet. Gibson finished 2-2 at the state tourney.

He joins teammate Diion Leavell, who signed with Kentucky Wesleyan last month. The Owensboro school is building a new wrestling program from the ground up. Christian County wrestling coach Robert Burnham hinted at the ceremony that a third Colonel wrestler could end up at KWC soon.

Gibson said he plans to study graphic design at Kentucky Wesleyan.
