Yogi McKnight finished second in both the long jump and triple jump to qualify for next week's Class 3A State Meet
Hopkinsville’s boys’ and girls’ track and field teams brought home top six finishes at the Class 3A Region I Track and Field Meet Friday in Paducah.
The teams had several individuals finish in the top two to automatically qualify for next week’s state meet. A few more could still qualify if their marks are among the next 10 best statewide.
The Lady Tigers finished in third place with 76 points behind McCracken County (101.6) and Owensboro (99). The Tigers finished sixth with 40 points.
GIRLS
Jakayla McSwain won the 400-meter dash in a time of 58.08 and will return to defend her Class 3A state title next week. She also won the 200-meters in a time of 26.01.
Breon Oldham finished second in the 100-meter dash (13.04) and was an automatic qualifier for the state meet. She also finished fourth in the 200-meters (27.06).
Yogi McKnight took second place in the long jump (16-02.50) and was second in the triple jump (33-7)
Meghan Easton finished second in the 800-meter run and will return to the Class 3A state meet.
Tajayha Miller was seventh in the long jump (14-4) and 12th in the triple jump (27-03.25)
Natavia Crossley finished seventh in the high jump (4-6) and 10th in the 400-meter dash (1:08.41)
Eighth grader Allison Wood finished seventh in the 3200-meter run (12:58.27), ninth in the 1600-meter run (5:58.80), and 13th in the 800-meter run (2:46.72)
Dashiya Radford was ninth in the 300-meter hurdles (55.63) and 12th in the high jump (4-0)
Aidia Leavell was tenth in the discus throw (80-09) and 12th in the shot put (26-11)
Jakayla Epps finished 11th in the 100-meter dash (13.79)
Anna Lee was 14th in the 3200-meter run (14:16.06)
Olivia Thomas was 16th in the triple jump (62-11)
Mya Lane was 17th in the shot put (20-07.25)
The 800-meter relay team of Easton, McSwain, McKnight, and Avery O’Hara won in a time of 1:46.81 and will return to the state meet. The same quartet won the 1600-meter relay in a time of 4:10.05
BOYS
Keion Brown won the 400-meter run in a time of 49.60
JeVon Leavell was fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.35) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (23.55)
Zahnte Brown was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (17.20) and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (45.11)
Chase Atkins was sixth in the 1600-meter run (4:49.61) and sixth in the 3200-meter run (10:30.39)
Kyren Palmer was sixth in the long jump (18-04.50) and eight in the triple jump (36-09.50)
Joshua Deeds was ninth in the discus throw (103-00)
Josh Mallory was 10th in the discus throw (99-06) and 16th in the shot put (33-05)
Cameron Bussell was 10th in the 400-meter dash (55.71)
Korbyn Newsome was 11th in the 800-meter run (2:15.09)
Mitchell Degenhardt was 12th in the 200-meter dash (24.56)
Jamarius McKnight was 13th in the 800-meter run (2:19.46)
Desandre Green was 14th in the 100-meter dash (12.20)
Max DuBois was 14th in 3200-meter run (12:08.66)
Brian Mariga was 16th in the 1600-meter run (5:15.56)
Ezekiel Deeds was 17th in the shot put (31-00)
The 800-meter relay team of Cam Bussell, JeVon Leavell, Keion Brown, and Mitchell Degenhardt finished second in a time of 1:31.90. The same team finished third in the 1600-meter run (3:39.06)
The 400-meter relay team finished seventh (45.49) and the 3200-meter relay team finished fifth (9:08.46)
