Christian County is the No. 1 seed and the favorite to win their fourth straight title when the Eighth District Baseball Tournament begins Monday at Hopkinsville High.
The Colonels (15-12) rolled through the district, winning all six games by a total score of 70-11. Christian County has won 10 of 13 entering the postseason, where they will play No. 4 seed Fort Campbell Monday at 5:30.
The Falcons (4-13) lost to the Colonels 26-3 and 12-2 during the regular season. They are looking for their first district title since 1990.
At 7pm, No. 2 seed Hopkinsville (8-20) will host No. 3 seed University Heights (9-14).
This semifinal matchup has given fans their money’s worth in recent years. Drew McGowan pitched the Blazers to a 1-0 win over the Tigers last year. UHA also beat the Tigers 10-8 in eight innings two years ago in a contest known as the “pitch count game.”
Hoptown last won a district title in 2014, while UHA is gunning for their first district championship banner since 2001.
Monday’s winners will advance to Tuesday’s district title game at 7:30.
