Trigg County advanced to the Fifth District softball title game for the second time in three years Monday with a 3-0 win over Livingston Central Monday in Marion.
Freshman Kara Southwood came on in relief and allowed just three hits in six innings while striking out two. Southwood replaced starter Hannah Colbert who is still dealing with a minor injury.
Trigg County scored their first run in the third inning when Logan Darnall singled, advanced to third and two batters later scored on a Colbert sacrifice fly.
The Lady Wildcats added some insurance in the sixth inning when Madison Simpson doubled, Autumn Durham reached on an error, and Adri Phillips doubled them home for a 3-0 lead.
Darnall had three hits for the Lady Wildcats, and Phillips added two.
The Lady Wildcats improve to 22-12 on the season and set a new school record for wins in a season – for either slow pitch or fast pitch.
Trigg County will play Crittenden County Tuesday in the Fifth District title game at 6pm in Marion. Both teams also advance to next week’s Second Region Tournament at Madisonville.
