Regan Hancock has had a softball glove on her hand for as long as she could hold a softball in the other one. She was destined to be a great player. After all, her mother, Sheri Jones Hancock, was a star on Christian County’s 1991 State Championship slow-pitch softball team that also garnered 45 straight wins.
Regan’s accomplishments on the pitching mound have indeed been many. She’s a seven-year player for the Christian County Lady Colonels, which is the second-most winning program in Kentucky. A five-time letterman, Regan is 11-1 in the circle with a 1.61 ERA. At the plate, she has a .367 batting average and has belted two grand slams. In her career, Regan has a 39-13 pitching record and .319 batting average.
Playing softball for the Lady Colonels is not easy. Coach Johnny Blane and his staff demand greatness, not just in crucial tournament games, but in practice, the weight room, and in the classroom. In fact, every player on the roster was recently named to the Eighth District all-academic team.
Regan Hancock is tough. She’s disciplined. She’s focused. And she’s a winner. Not just on the field, but off the field as well. “Rev” will graduate Friday night from Christian County High School, proudly wearing the Valedictorian sash, something she says she worked extremely hard to earn. Although she knew she would likely have an opportunity to play softball at the college level, she decided when she was a sophomore that she wanted to enjoy the game and focus equally on academics. And she has done just that.
Regan is a 2017 graduate of the prestigious Governor’s Scholars program, a graduate of the Hopkinsville Youth Leadership program, a former member of the Mayor’s Youth Council, a member of National Honor Society, BETA, FBLA, and the list goes on forever. She has never made a “B” on a report card. That’s discipline. That’s focus. Regan’s next life goal is to win a state softball championship as a Christian County Lady Colonel and then to graduate from Murray State University (where she earned a full scholarship) and to pursue a nursing career.
Being a total team player, Regan proudly noted that her two senior “sisters” on the team were also academic stars. Third baseman Halle Rhea Hendricks is co-Salutatorian and plans to attend University of Kentucky. Pitcher/Second Baseman Lexie O’Daniel ranks seventh in the 2018 class and is considering several options, both academically and athletically.
Congratulations to Regan Hancock, daughter of Tyler and Sheri Hancock, on an incredible softball career as a Christian County Lady Colonel and a phenomenal academic accomplishment, Valedictorian of the Christian County High School Class of 2018.
