The two schools are separated by 324 miles. According to Google Maps, if you were traveling to Paintsville High School it would take you five hours to make the journal from Hopkinsville to Paintsville.
This Thursday, the two schools are scheduled to meet in the opening round of the state baseball tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington in the opening round of the state baseball tournament.
Paintsville secured their berth in the tournament with a 5-2 win over Johnson Central on Saturday. The Tigers enter the tourney with a record of 25-12, and are on a five game winning streak. They had struggled coming down to the finish line in the regular season losing three of their last five games, including a 9-6 loss to the Somerset team that defeated 2nd Region team Caldwell County in the All A Classic. Paintsville qualified for the All A Classic, but lost to Raceland in the sectional game between the 15th Region and 16th Region champions.
Other than that, it is hard to get much of a schedule comparison between Christian County and Paintsville. The Tigers played no team from further west than Somerset. Their nemesis during the season was district rival Johnson Central. Paintsville lost both regular season contests with Johnson Central, before defeating the Golden Eagles in both the 57th District championship and the 15th Region championship.
Meanwhile, the Christian County Colonels come into the state tournament on a six game winning streak, and having won 12 of their last 14 game. The Colonels got to the state tournament by defeating Union County 6-1 Friday night in the 2nd Region championship game.
Christian County and Paintsville are set to play Thursday afternoon at 1:30pm.
