It was a tough way to end a great season, especially when you playing without one of your key senior players. After opening the state softball tournament with wins over Marshall County and Oldham County, the Christian County Lady Colonels were eliminated Friday evening in back to back losses to #1 Scott County and #2 East Carter. The Lady Colonels went into both contests knowing that senior pitcher Lexie O’Daniel would not be available to pitch, although she did play all of both games at second base.

The game against Scott County, which had been scheduled originally for 3pm, was delayed until around 6pm due to several heat delays over the course of the afternoon at the tournament.

In the game against the Lady Cardinals, Scott County hurler Kennedy Sullivan held the Lady Colonels to only four hits as Scott County advanced to the winner’s bracket final with the 5-0 win. Scott County picked up 2 runs in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, and one more in the 6th to pick up the win. Hope Jones was 2-2 for Christian County, including a double.

The game marked the first loss to a Kentucky team all season for the Lady Colonels. It was also the first time they had been shut out by a Kentucky team this year.

In the second game of the evening, the heat and the third game of the day may have taken a toll on the Lady Colonels, that and the pitching of Alabama signee Montana Fouts, as #2 East Carter cruised past Christian County 9-0. East Carter scored in four of their six at bats during the game, including four runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to seal the Lady Colonels fate.

For the second game in a row, Christian County was shut out, as Montana Fouts gave up only four hits, while striking out 14 and walking only one.

Pickle Winkler, Halle Hendricks, Tyler Shemwell, and Lexie O’Daniel had the hits for the Lady Colonels, who could never quite seem to find their offensive stride against Fouts.

With the two lossess the Lady Colonels finish their season at 37-5-1.
