The Second Region was well-represented on the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State Teams released Monday.
Christian County’s Wyatt Stevenson, University Heights Academy’s Drew McGowan, and Caldwell County’s Shane Burns were named to the First Team.
Stevenson, a junior and University of Louisville commit, hit .373 for the Colonels with three home runs and 31 RBIs. One of his homers came in the state tournament loss to Paintsville last week. 14 of Stevenson’s 31 hits went for extra bases.
He also posted a 5-3 record on the mound with a 2.86 ERA. He struck out 75 batters in 49 innings with only 21 walks issued.
McGowan, also a junior, has committed to Mississippi State. He batted .478 for the Blazers and hit safely in 21 of UHA’s 25 games this year. He also added 18 RBIs.
On the mound, McGowan was just 1-5 but had a 2.77 ERA and struck out 67 batters in 35 innings while issuing just 14 walks.
Burns has signed with Murray State University. He was 5-2 with a 0.62 ERA, giving up four earned runs in 45 innings pitched. He struck out 91 batters and issued just 17 walks.
At the plate, Burns hit .312 with one home run and 25 RBIs.
Union County’s Trey Hutchison and Henderson County’s Nolan Melton were named to the Second Team.
Caldwell County’s Jase Ryan Felker was named All-State Honorable Mention. Felker, who has signed with Rend Lake College, hit .451 with two homers and 32 RBIs for the Tigers.
On the mound, he was 3-2 with a 2.92 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 26 innings.
Highlands’ Drew Rom was named Mr. Baseball. Rom was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball Draft last week.
