One night after scoring 14 runs in a win over Fulton, the Hoptown Hoppers managed just three hits in a 2-1 loss at Dubois County Saturday.

Bomber pitcher Jacob Frankel was dominant, allowing just three hits and no earned runs in eight innings. He struck out ten Hoppers and didn’t walk a batter.

Hoppers’ pitcher Sage Holderfield was equally as impressive with 7.1 innings of three-hit baseball. He struck out 10 and walked one but was saddled with the loss.

The game was scoreless through seven innings until the Hoppers pushed across a run in the eighth inning. Cord Johnson reached on a Bomber error to lead off the inning and moved to third on a double by Nick Proto. Ryan Traylor’s sacrifice fly scored Johnson.

Dubois County answered with two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Brad Fuhrhop singled and Nick Gonzales was hit by a pitch. After a sacrifice bunt, Cody Bridges singled to center to score a pair of runs.

The Hoppers went 1-2-3 in the ninth.

In addition to Proto’s double, the Hoppers got singles from Traylor and John Reed.

The Hoppers (11-7) remain a half-game ahead of Madisonville for first place in the OVL West standings. The Hoppers welcome the Miners to Colonel Field Sunday in their annual ‘Shirt off their backs’ auction night. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.
