Hoppers Head Into All-Star Break with 9-1 Win

The Hoptown Hoppers picked up a win heading into Sunday’s All-Star Game, defeating Henderson 9-1 Saturday at Colonel Field.

Hoptown scored two runs early, and Shane Burns made the lead stand up. The Murray State signee pitched 6.2 innings of six-hit baseball and didn’t allow an earned run. He struck out eight and walked just two in moving to 2-0 on the season. He also lowered his ERA to 1.21.

The Hoppers scored twice in the first inning on a Joe DeFina single and Cody Hartness groundout. Hartness would smack a two-run homer in the sixth inning to extend the Hopper lead to 4-0.

The Hoppers continued to pour it on in the seventh inning when Nick Proto scored a run with a single, and DeFina drew a bases loaded walk. Davis Keller added an RBI single and Max Remy walked with he sacks full to cap the four-run inning.

Proto finished off his three-hit night with an RBI single in the eighth inning. Hartness and Keller also had a pair of hits for the Hoppers, who enter the OVL All-Star break with a 14-9 record and a two-game lead in the OVL West standings.

Hoptown hosts the OVL All-Star Game Sunday. Skills competitions begin at 3:30 with the first pitch at 6:00.
