Emma Talley could not sustain a strong start and faded to finish 55th at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship Sunday. After starting her first round with four consecutive birdies, Talley finished at 1-under and didn’t shoot under par over the final two rounds.
She entered Saturday’s third round at 1-under but shot 5-over Saturday and 2-over Sunday to finish at 6-over. Golfers had to endure blazing hot weather at Kemper Lakes Golf Club outside of Chicago that ranged in the upper 90s throughout the weekend.
After struggling to hit just six of 14 fairways on Saturday and needing 33 putts in the round, Talley hit nine of 14 fairways Sunday and had 31 putts.
Missing the fairways in the final two days was unusual for Talley, who ranks 18th on the LPGA Tour in driving accuracy. However, she has slipped to 109th in putting average at 30.23 per round.
Sung Hyun Park won the tournament in a playoff at 10-under.
Talley earned $10,887 for her finish and stands at 54th on the LPGA money list with $180,341 won this year. It’s interesting to note that Talley earned her LPGA Tour card by finishing ninth in Symetra Tour winnings last year. She has earned more money on the LPGA Tour this year than the eight golfers that finished ahead of her on last year’s Symetra Tour.
Talley will get to celebrate the July 4th holiday this week at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic in Oneida, Wisconsin.
