Lyon County Post 68 rode a fast start to beat Owensboro Post 9 to advance in the American Legion State Tournament in Louisa Wednesday. Post 68 scored four times in the first inning and five more times in the third to win 9-3.
Travis Yancy belted a grand slam in the first inning to give the Aces all the runs they would need on the afternoon.
Brody Bridges had an RBI single to get the scoring in the third inning going. Two ground outs and an error put Post 68 up by a score of 9-1.
That was all the offense Ty Ramey needed. The Caldwell County product allowed five hits over six innings and struck out seven while allowing just one earned run.
Yancy had three of the Aces’ nine hits on the day. Gabe Board added two singles, while Cameron Head drove in a pair of runs.
Wednesday’s win puts Post 68 in the driver’s seat of the double-elimination tournament being played on the Kentucky-West Virginia border.
