After an improbable run to the 5th District championship in 2016, the Lyon County Lady Lyons found themselves in the title game again last season. However, this time they came up short, falling 4-1 to Trigg County. Just as they did in 2016, the Lady Lyons got hot at the end of the season, winning three of their last five matches to close the year at 7-13-2. They scored 43 goals, but allowed a region-high 91.
Much of the Lady Lyons’ firepower is back for 2018. Seniors Mia Myers and Alexis Pinnegar join sophomore Destiny Dycus at the top of the attack, with junior Emily Smith and sophomore Sydney Hoffman returning with offensive experience. The Lady Lyons also bring back junior midfielder Mackenzie Lewis and defenders Kate Gray, a junior, and sophomore Christa Cummins. Coach Emilee Workman also has some new faces she expects to contribute, with junior Kayden Watts and freshmen Leah Schroeder, Rose Smith and Abby Smith bolstering the roster.
Lyon County will get its season started on Thursday with a trip to post to face the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons. They begin play in the All “A” Classic on August 21 with a match against Crittenden County. The Lady Lyons won three of the four meetings with the Lady Rockets last season, including a 6-3 victory in the first round of the district tournament.
