Despite winning the school’s first-ever girls’ soccer district title last year, Todd County Central is attempting to overcome the loss of a big senior class and the decision of several starters not to return this year.

In spite of some early setbacks, the Lady Rebels handed Russellville a 2-0 defeat in the quarterfinals of the Fourth Region All-A Classic Tournament Thursday in Elkton.

Russellville, playing the school’s first-ever varsity soccer game, played the Lady Rebels to a scoreless first half draw. However, attrition took over in the second half as the Lady Panthers, who were playing with just one substitute, suffered from player injuries and cramping.

Maddye Drummond scored four minutes into the second half and later added another goal for the only scoring in the contest. Sophomore Nikita Shutts made seven saves in goal for the Lady Rebels.

Russellville will look for the program’s first-ever win this weekend at the Warren Central Lady Dragons Lair Classic.

Todd County Central (1-1) play at Christian County Monday and have a district road game at Franklin-Simpson Tuesday.
