To say it has been a good start to the 2018 volleyball season for the UHA Lady Blazers might be a bit of an understatement. The Lady Blazers picked up their 4th consecutive straight set win to begin the season, defeating Christian County in an 8th District matchup Thursday night at Blazer Gym.

While the match was decided in straight sets, in terms of competitive nature, it did not feel like a sweep. The Lady Colonels battled through each set, making the Lady Blazers work, but Christian County just could not seem to come up with a set win to turn the momentum of the match.

UHA won the first set 25-20. Christian County’s best opportunity to take a set came in the second, however UHA was able to hold on just long enough to win 25-23. In the third and final set, the Lady Blazers appeared to wear Christian County down and pulled out to the 25-17 win to close out the match.

Service aces played a big role in the UHA win, as the Lady Blazers served up a total of 12 aces led by Evelyn Morales with 4 and Beth Peebles with 3. Anna Moore, Lily Hendricks, Aisha Pantiere, Meghan Adams, and Katie Beth Stevens also helped to lead a very balanced team effort.

For Christian County, the Lady Colonels got solid nights again from Ariyonna Johnson, with 8 kills and 2 blocks and Macy Baker, who had 4 aces and 5 kills. Lindsie Oden added 6 assists, while Elizabeth Gibbs had 5 assists.

UHA and Christian County both return to action this weekend in the Apollo Summer Slam.
