Heritage Christian Academy opened their 2018 soccer season by winning two of three games at the River City Classic in Evansville and finishing second in their group.
HCA beat North Knox, Ind. 8-4 on Friday. Lucas Hite scored the first two goals for the Warriors to force a 2-2 tie at halftime. Thomas West opened with a hat trick to start the second half. The Warriors got another goal from West along with goals from Mati Venable and Lawson Ashby in the second half.
“We struggled to find the correct passing lanes in the first half and didn’t do a great job of picking up our marks defensively in the first half,” Coach Tony Henson said. “After a few challenges during our halftime talk, we corrected most of the issues and really moved the ball well and kept their attackers tied up.”
On Saturday, the Warriors fell to Boonville, Ind. 5-2. West and Venable had the goals for the Warriors. Boonville would win the group and beat North Knox 6-1 for the championship.
HCA beat Evansville Bosse 4-2 Saturday as West, Venable, Ashby, and Trenton Hayes found the back of the net for the Warriors.
Heritage Christian will open KCAA play Friday when they play at Somerset Christian.
