Hopkinsville cooled off one of the Second Region’s top-scoring defense and handed Webster County a 3-1 loss Monday in a rain-shortened contest at the Stadium of Champions.
Steven Hermosillo got Hopkinsville on the board eight minutes into the contest with a goal off a pass from Welby Horn. Two minutes later, Zach Moore added Hoptown’s second goal unassisted.
Webster County answered with a goal to make the contest 2-1 at halftime.
Horn added Hopkinsville’s final goal two minutes into the second half. Xavier Bussell made a save in goal for the Tigers, who improved to 3-0 with the win.
Webster County (2-1) scored 18 goals in wins over Lyon County and Caldwell County to start the season.
Hopkinsville (3-0) has now won 25 straight matches against Second Region opponents. They will step out of the region Saturday to play at Daviess County, a team ranked sixth in the state in this week’s Maher Computer Rankings. Hoptown is ranked 15th.
