The UHA Lady Blazers scored early and often on the way to an 11-1 win over Lyon County in the 2nd Region All A title game in Crittenden on Thursday night. The All-A region title is the tenth straight for the Lady Blazers, who improve to 3-0 overall while outscoring their opponents 25-4. The Lady Lyons were coming off an impressive 11-1 win over Crittenden County on Tuesday in the semifinals, but slip to their second loss in three outings.
Lilly Strader got UHA off the mark with 2 goals in the opening five minutes. Alex Juckett scored soon after, followed by a Grace Pape free kick for a 4-0 margin. Strader struck twice more, the second coming with less than five minutes left in the half, and Kate Cansler added another for a 7-0 advantage. With under a minute until the break, Leah Schroeder pulled one back for the Lady Lyons.
Pape got on the board again just after halftime, with Emerson Barlow and Strader then scoring in quick succession to stretch the lead to 10-1. Juckett added her second with thirteen minutes to play to trigger the mercy rule and give the Lady Blazers the title.
The Lady Blazers’ victory sets up an All A Sectional meeting with Murray High. The Lady Tigers have been a thorn in UHA’s side over the last four seasons, with the Lady Blazers last beating them in 2013. UHA is off until September 1, when they will travel to Princeton to take on the Caldwell County Lady Tigers (2-4). The Lady Lyons will be back on the field on Tuesday for a big 7th District match-up with Trigg County (2-4).
