Christian County boys’ soccer coach Matt Gibson made a goalkeeper change on Saturday against Owensboro Catholic, and it paid off with the Colonels collecting their first shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over the Aces at the Stadium of Champions.  The Colonels even their record at 2-2, while Owensboro Catholic slips to 1-4.

Colonels’ senior Ben Settle made his first start in goal this season, after lining up in an attacking position previously.  After having virtually nothing to do in the first half, Settle came up with three huge second-half saves to keep the game scoreless.  With sixteen minutes to play, senior Emmanuel Ixcol burst through the Aces’ defense and rolled the ball into the far corner of the goal to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead.  Settle would be called on once more in the last few minutes, making a point-blank save to deny the Aces the equalizer and preserve the victory.

The Colonels will be back on the field on Monday when they welcome the 2-4 St. Mary Vikings to the Stadium of Champions.
