Short-handed Trigg Golfers Fare Well in Paducah

8-30-butts

Trigg County finished third in a triangular golf match Thursday, but Coach Jim Garnett was left with several positives afterward. Trigg County shot a 158 at Paxton Park Golf Course in Paducah to finish seven shots behind Graves County and three shots behind St. Mary. Both of those teams are considered among the top four in Region One.

Grayson Thomas led Trigg with a 39, followed by Caleb Federspiel (40), Darrin Goodwin (42), and Ty Butts (44). Freshman Hunter Reynolds, who has been one Trigg County’s top golfers on the year, fell ill and did not finish his round. Despite the DNF, Trigg was within striking distance of getting the win on the same course that will host the Region One Tournament next month.

St. Mary freshman Rocco Zakutney took medalist honors with a 36. Graves County’s Taylor Cope shot a 37 and had a hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth hole.

All three teams are expected to play in the Marshall County Invitational Saturday at the Calvert City Country Club.
