Offensive struggles continue to be a problem for the Fort Campbell Falcons after three weeks of the 2018 football season. Friday night, the Falcons could only muster 73 yard of total offense as they were blanked by the Glasgow Scotties.

Defensively, the night got off to a promising start for the Falcons. On the Scotties first possession, Fort Campbell closed the door on a Scotty drive deep into their territory, to get the ball for the first time of the night. However, on the Falcons second play from the line of scrimmage a Matt Middleton pass, intended for Elijah Crockett, bounced off Crockett’s shoulder and into the hands of Thad Dial, who returned the pick 27 yards to put Glasgow in front 6-0 with 7:44 to go in the first quarter.

The Scotties got on the board 3 ½ minutes later when Tanner Abernathy connected with Dontavis Oates on a 33-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 12-0.

Glasgow found the end zone one more time in the first quarter as Nick Mitchell took it in from three yards out with four seconds to go in the first to make it 18-0.

In the second quarter, the Fort Campbell defense stepped up its play, and the offense did enough to keep the ball out of Glasgow’s hands for most of the quarter, but could not find a way to put points on the board. The Scotties struck paydirt again when Nick Mitchell scored his 2nd TD of the night, this one on a one yard run with 2:59 in the first half to make it a 24-0 Glasgow lead.

Coming out of the locker room in the second half, the Scotties score two touchdowns in a 16 second span to reach continuous clock and to blow the lead out to 37-0. Neither team was able to score after that, although the Falcons had two shots into the end zone in the final seconds of the game.

The Falcons had 81 yards passing and minus 8 yards on the ground, while the Scotties had 146 yards rushing and 121 yards through the air.

Ethan Tomerlin was the Falcons leading rusher with five carries for 37 yards. Tyler MacKay caught three passes for 30 yards to lead the receiving corps. Matt Middleton was 11-24-3 for a total of 81 yards.

The Falcons fall to 0-3 with the loss, while Glasgow improved to 3-0. Fort Campbell returns to post next Friday night to host Murray.
