The UHA Lady Blazers dropped their first match of the season Thursday night in a tight road battle against the Bowling Green Lady Purples in rainy conditions. The Lady Purples came up with the only goal of the second half and made it stand up in the 2-1 win.
Bowling Green got on the board first, scoring off a free kick to take a 1-0 lead. The Lady Blazers battled right back to tie the game up at 1-1 when Grace Pape scored off an assist from Victoria Sisk.
The two teams then battled the rest of the half to a scoreless draw, to go to the break all knotted up at 1-1.
The Lady Purples scored the game winner late in the second half, bending in a corner kick to go back in front 2-1. UHA could not manage to get a ball in the net over the final minutes of the contest, and Bowling Green did enough defensively to hold on for the win.
UHA falls to 4-1 on the season, while Bowling Green improves to 7-2-2.
