Freshman Ethan Weatherspoon tallied a hat trick for Caldwell County as the Tigers picked up their first win of the 2018 season with a 4-0 win over Lyon County Thursday at Butler Stadium.
Weatherspoon scored twice in the game’s first 20 minutes off feeds from Colin Shafer for a 2-0 Tiger lead. Shafer fed Jack Kinsolving for a goal just before halftime for a 3-0 lead.
Weatherspoon completed the hat trick when he scored off a corner kick from Blake Vivrette with 20 minutes left in the match.
Barrett Schultz had six saves in goal for the Tigers, who have allowed three or fewer goals in three of their last four matches.
Lyon County got several good looks but couldn’t any of their eight shots on goal past Schultz.
The Lyons fall to 1-10-1 on the season and have a key district game with Trigg County Monday in Eddyville.
Caldwell County (1-6-1) has a pair of district games up next, starting with Hopkins County Central Tuesday at the Butler Stadium.
