The Trigg County girls’ soccer team rallied late at Mayfield on Thursday night, but ran out of time in a 4-2 loss to the Lady Cardinals. Trigg loses its sixth in seven outings to slip to 3-9, while Mayfield earns its first victory of the season to stand at 1-6-1 overall.
Down 1-0 at the half, the Lady Wildcats gave up 2 second-half goals in quick succession to trail 3-0 late in the match. Senior Brittany Kelly scored twice off assists from sophomore Kara Southwood to cut the lead to 1, but the Lady Cardinals sealed the game with a goal off a counter attack for the 4-2 final score.
Trigg County host Lyon County on Monday with the top seed in the 5th District tournament on the line. The Lady Wildcats enter the match with a 2-1 district record, while the Lady Lyons are unbeaten at 3-0.
