Trigg County rolled up over 400 yards of offense, and their defense was dominant for a second straight week as the Wildcats hammered Russellville 45-16 Friday at Rhea Stadium. Trigg County had a balanced offensive attack, running for 212 yards and passing for 207. Quarterback Cam Jordan ran for 120 yards and was 13-of-24 passing for 207 yards and a touchdown.

The Wildcat defense was stingy for a second straight week, giving up just 28 rushing yards to the Panthers. It looked early like Russellville was going to have the upper hand when Chevas Elliott took the opening kick and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown. The two-point conversion gave the Panthers a quick 8-0 lead.

The Wildcats drove down the field but fumbled at the 1-yard line. Trigg’s defense stepped up as Jude Hunter recovered a Russellville fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. Jordan would close out the scoring in the quarter on a 12-yard run with 3:58 to go that gave the Wildcats a 15-8 lead.

In the second quarter, Hunter scored from 9 yards out to put the Wildcats ahead 22-8. Trigg’s defense forced a safety on a quarterback sack of Panther quarterback Jacob Naylor.

On the ensuing kickoff, Kyron Grubbs took the kick 70 yards to the end zone for a 31-8 Wildcat lead. Trigg would score again in the third quarter on a 10-yard run by Jakobe Bridges. It was the lone rushing attempt for Bridges, who caught seven passes for 115 yards.

The Wildcats closed out their scoring when Jordan hit Alex Curling on a 41-yard seam route for a touchdown.

The Panthers would tack on a late score when Javori Gamble caught a 31-yard scoring pass from Naylor with 1:56 left.

Trigg County outgained Russellville 419-187 in snapping a six-game losing streak to the Panthers. The win was Trigg County’s largest over Russellville since a 48-0 win on 2002 and was their Rhea Stadium since 1972.

Russellville falls to 2-3 with the loss, and they will be on the road next week at Murray.

Trigg County improved to 3-2, and they begin district play next week on the road at Fort Campbell, who got their first win of the year Friday 27-12 over Fort Knox.
